Some Exciting Arrivals & a Sneak Peek

It's always a bit nerve-wracking ordering things from an online supplier you haven't used before, but I've been extremely happy with all my new arrivals for the display home. The cushions covers for the girl's room have arrived.I haven't bought cushion inserts yet, but I think they are gorgeous.

I also received some of the cushion covers for the living room.

Which are to go with some of these gorgeous accessories...

DIY Solution: Putting a bed beneath a window

Just thought I'd share a photo from a bedroom I once did. We had a high window on the wall behind the bed (as well as a very large window on the wall to the right which you can't see). I hate putting beds in front of windows because I always think blinds and curtains are annoying behind the bed, but in this room there wasn't any choice.

The window already had cream Roman blinds with timber slats. I made and upholstered a headboard and stapled two strips of fabric onto it, before gluing a piece of dowel (which I had already stained) to cover the staples holding the fabric on. Then, I attached the same fabric to the blind using double sided tape.

When the blind was out, it hung just at the top of the headboard, making the whole thing look like a contemporary high headboard, but it could still be pulled up if you wanted to let in a little more light.

A Moodboard in Aqua & Red

As you can see, I've moved away from just aqua and red. I decided to bring in some more colours to make it a fun, colourful and relaxed room. I'm on a bit of a budget so I'll be making the butterfly frame myself. I'll also be incorporating lots of gorgeous handmade items from Etsy and I have a bamboo headboard for behind the bed (this one is just to illustrate).

Aqua & Red - The Perfect Little Girl's Room

A big project I'm working on at the moment is the design for a builder's display home. The house is part of their beach house series, so I'm going with a relaxed modern and coastal feel to the home. I'll keep posting inspiration and purchases for this project as time goes buy.

The room that is the most fun is, of course, the girl's bedroom. I want to use one of my favourite colour combos, aqua and cherry red, as a girly take on a typical red and blue coastal theme. It's hard to find rooms with this colour scheme but here's some inspiration...

Getting Started

Hi everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Anna Williams, and I'm a young interior designer in North Queensland, Australia. I wanted to start a blog to get further involved in a community that has constantly inspired me throughout my years of study, and probably taught me more than my studies did as well!

It will be a record of my projects, not only at work, but also in my own home, as well as a place to post my inspiration, ideas and favourite designs. I'm hoping this will be a place to get those thousand ideas out of my head and onto paper (so to speak) so I can stop dreaming about finding the perfect cushions, or discovering that one piece I've been looking for at a garage sale for $2 (yes, I really am that obsessed!). I'm also hoping to showcase a little bit of local interior design, art and fantastic products from my home town.

So I hope you enjoy my thoughts and please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you.

Anna
