Tiling is Tiring...

I have just spent another weekend tiling. The reason progress is so slow is because I only have every second weekend off. This time around my job was to learn how to use the angle grinder to cut the tiles to fit around doorways, which is to be quite honest a bit of a **** job! We've mastered the art of it now though, and things are moving a little more quickly.

I chose a simple, cream 300x300mm tile. Although I would have liked something more interesting, the budget did not allow it. And, despite my love for this kitchen, the thought of laying these tiles makes me want to cry!

And I think this kitchen would make me curl up in a ball on the floor...

My respect for tiler's has increased immensely, so please treat your tiler nicely!

  1. I'm so impressed that you are tackling the tiling job yourself. That is not quite something I feel comfortable attempting yet. I can't wait to see your finished floor.

  4. eep! I can't believe you tackled a tile job by yourself. Good for you! The thought terrifies me. I know how difficult it is - it's definitely an art form at its best

  5. Very impressive! I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult cutting tile is, or installing it for that matter. I have some subway tile in my garage that I want to use as a backsplash. I haven't worked up the courage yet to tackle the job. Good for you, I can't wait to see how it turns out.

  6. It's not as bad as it sounds, once you get the hang of a straight edge tiler cutter (easy to use) and the angle grinder (a bit more difficult) it's not that bad. As long as you can keep the tiles straight and square, which is why herringbone patterns seem impossible to me! If you want to learn more about tiling Young House Love did a post on it http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/01/tackling-the-bathroom-chapter-four/, although they used a wet tile saw instead of an angle grinder.

  7. Wow, tiling is not an easy job especially when it comes to the corners or edges. I am very impressed, Anna!

Love the black floor tiles in the first image! Looking forward to see how your tiles come along.
