A feminine style...

Another feminine post today (a girly overload after the apartment the other day). I've just been drawn to these interiors recently - I promise some other styles later this week!

Although I don't have too much of a feminine style at home my fondness for pink is definately increasing (I have recently snuck some coral pillows and accents into the living without too much of a comment from the other half!). As a result, I'm loving these pink, glamorous, feminine spaces at the moment...

I love the hot pink mixed with industrial accents in the last place, and that white and gold striped lamp would look lovely in my bedroom I think.

Are you going to add some pink touches to your home? What elements here appeal to you?

Feature Home: A feminine contemporary apartment

I stumbled over this apartment while following image sources back through site after site, blog after blog. It caught my eye straight away with its mix of contemporary sparse pieces, exotic lanterns and bold accent colours.

I particularly love the dining room with that fun artwork (easy DIY for someone) and those multi-coloured chairs!

How to remove word verification in Blogger

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Is anyone else finding the new word verification captcha system frustrating?! These two, blurry, difficult to read words are making my blog commenting life rather miserable!

When I first started my blog I disabled it straight away but someone recently advised me it was there again. When I went to Settings I couldn't find anywhere to disable it.

I worked out how and thought I would share in case you're frustrated by this problem as well!

1) First, you need to switch to the old interface - the new one doesn't have an option to remove word verification. To do this, click on the little cog symbol under your name, and select 'Old Blogger Interface'.

2) Once you're back to the old interface, click on Settings.

3) Once you're into the 'Settings' section, click on the 'Comments' tab.

4) Scroll down until you see 'Show word verification for comments?'. Click 'NO'.

Easy, hey? You can switch back to the old interface by clicking on the 'Try the updated blogger interface' link at the top right of your screen, and you're all fixed.

Hope this helps!

Chandelier paint colours

Remember here I announced I had bought a vintage chandelier for the house. I was tossing up what colour to paint it. There were a few votes cast already, but I did dig up some pictures to get me inspired.

Just to remind you, this is what the kitchen currently looks like...

I could simple matt white (more contemporary, still neutral, will it blend in with the white cabinets, or contrast with the grey walls above?)

Or, I could use a soft charcoal grey (I'd probably go a shade or two darker than the walls)...

I love the idea of using a metallic grey, like this beauty...

And the drama of black is appealing as well (the black chairs will be replaced later, so there wouldn't be a lot of black left in the room)...

Of course, then I have to decide whether to change out the glass shades (which a little bit traditional) to something else in glass, try bare bulbs or even add fabric shades. Of course, it could equally well just the way it is!

Here is my little project. What do you vote for?

Inspirational Kid's Rooms

I realised it has been a long time since I posted about kid's room. Which is funny because even though I don't have any children of my own, I adore designing their bedrooms and had such a lot of fun working on my little brother's room here.

I'd love to do some more children's rooms so if anyone needs some help, please think of me!

Which of these is your favourite?

A project using brass

I happened to pick up this tarnished brass tray the other day at a secondhand store. I've been looking for a large tray I could use on a coffee table for a while. The pretty cut out pattern on this one was perfect.

Unfortunately, it was looking a little sad...

I was watching a movie and decided to try and clean it up. I didn't have a specialised product lying around, and I've decided to try and use natural cleaners as much as I can. Thinking about home remedies I googled how to clean tarnished brass. I found one technique using vinegar, salt and hot water.

Look at the result!

Want to know the technique?

- Add a half cup of white vinegar and a tablespoon of table salt to a sink or basin (deep enough to cover the item).
- Fill with hot tap water and let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Add some dishwashing detergent to a sponge and gently scrub with a circular motion.
- You can use a toothbrush to get into the small cracks, but you will need something with stiff bristles!

Now, I have a pretty tray for my coffee table...

Which I can have fun styling...

What do you think? Have any pretty brass pieces you need to re-discover? I'm already eyeing off some old brass candlesticks I have at the back of the cupboard!

Small steps - Downstairs living room progress

By now, everyone has probably forgotten the fact I was tiling and renovating downstairs. It has been a while without photos hasn't it?! A while ago, I posted about the bedroom I had quickly fixed up and you can see some before photos. I also spoke here about my ideas for rugs.

Well, after painting I finally got stuck in and started moving furniture in. It's still a bit of disaster zone and the list of projects is long, but let's see what we have to start with...

My poor sofa got water damaged during the cyclone, see the water line along the back? It's due to be re-upholstered in a lovely rich greige. Don't mind the patchy doors - they have already had another coat!

This is the fabric I've chosen to layer under my Moroccan rug. Still need to hem the edges! I'm trying to decide whether to add another suitcase, and spray paint them some fun colour, or get a white coffee table.
The old wardrobe houses the TV.
The dining chairs were just there for a party...I'm thinking a wing chair in that corner, with a small side table.
Excuse the terrible photos, still haven't got my camera working!

So, let's have a look at the 'To-Do' list...

- Tile entire room
Two coats of Taubmans Snowy White to ceiling and walls
- Move furniture out of storage in garage
- Find new fabric for armchairs that incorporates orange and another colour
- Find fabric to layer under rug and hem
- Find fabric for curtains and hem (haven't chosen the length yet!)
- Add trim to curtains
- Make roman style blinds for louvred windows
- Re-upholster sofa in dark greige (finally chose a colour!)
- Find feature armchair for corner (where dining chairs are currently sitting)
- Find orange and lilac cushions for sofa
- Create dramatic abstract art for behind sofa
- Finish skirted console behind armchairs
- Decide what to do about the coffee table - suitcases or table?
- Paint armoire - colours; white, grey?
- Decide whether to add trim to drum pendants on ceiling

So, I'm only a little way through but at least it's liveable!

Any suggestions for my armoire colour? I was thinking charcoal grey, with white moulding. I need a little drama in this room!

Screen it off

What do you think of screens? A long time ago I picked up a very sad timber screen which I have always planned to paint. I have never quite got around to it and it has been left to look sadder still in my store room. I happened upon a pretty photo of one the other day and it got me thinking about screens again.

Designer unknown. Found on colour outside the lines blog.

Mine actually looks quite a lot like this (or would, if it was white)...

Screen by Lombok.

But I also really love this look. These are cupboards, but I love the lattice pattern over mirror. Maybe I should paint it white, and add mirror behind?

Hickory Chair. Found on Decorpad.
Hmmm, what do you think of screens? Unless you need to hide something, they really are purely decorative. Would you use one?

Look what I got in the mail!

So, I'm sure most of you have had a peek at Temple & Webster, one of Australia's online homewares sales event websites. They have daily sales of beautiful designer homewares at very affordable prices. If you haven't heard of it yet, you have to join! I just ordered some fantastic decor pieces for a display home I'm working on.

Temple & Webster also have a blog which you can visit here.

I was lucky enough to pop by the other day and see a fabulous giveaway for a signed copy of Maryn Lawrence Bullard's book 'Live Love Decorate'. I promptly entered. And...I won!

Today I received this gorgeous parcel in the post...

And opened it to discover this!

So, are you jealous yet?

Now, something I have been very sorry not to post about yet is another giveaway I won just before Christmas (I know, how lucky am I?!). What did I win? A fabulous print by the very talented Anna from her store Lona de Anna. I have been a very slack blogger not posting before but I have been waiting to find the perfect place, and to frame it. I need to do my print justice! However, that project is well underway and I promise to share soon! In the meantime, make sure you drop by and say hello to another Anna!
